Who We Are

Founded in 2010, St. Thomas’s International School has grown each year and now offers an international education for children from two years old to fourteen years old. The school is tucked into a serene location, surrounded by greenery yet inside the ancient city centre of Viterbo. Probably one of the only schools in the world to have a magnificent medieval wall as the boundary as well as spectacular views east across Lazio towards the coast. The ancient city of Viterbo, with its long history and proud culture, are part of the fabric of the school. The organic growth and success of St. Thomas’s International School is because of an unwavering dedication between all members of our community to collaborate and create a special learning environment that is rigorous and internationally-minded.

Our Mission

St.Thomas’s International School is a multilingual and internationally-minded school community. We collaborate to create a nurturing, child-centred learning environment. We are committed to the idea of life-long learning through an inquiry-based curriculum. We embrace creativity and diversity and encourage our learners to strive for excellence”

Drop Everything And Read (DEAR) – Book Week 2022

St Thomas’s International School is the only international school in Lazio, outside of Rome, that is accredited to facilitate the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP). Our families travel up to Viterbo from just north of Rome, from Terni in Umbria in the east, from Tarquinia to the west and towards Orvieto and the Tuscan border.

Learning at St. Thomas’s is student centred, personalised, exciting and challenging. Our curriculum programmes uncover significant, relevant and engaging topics. Learning is framed conceptually and seeks connections between subject disciplines to deepen and enrich understanding. We focus on the development of critical and creative thinking through collaboration, trips, guest speakers, projects and exhibitions. The main language of instruction at St. Thomas’s is English and all students receive Italian language lessons. Our families recognise the critical importance for their children to have an education that enables them to become proficient English language communicators and develop an internationally-minded approach in their learning and for their future opportunities.

St. Thomas’s International School’s success is because of the expertise, professional passion and vast experience of our teachers. As you explore the website, enjoy learning about our inspiring teachers from their introductions. We believe that the environment is a third teacher and students at St. Thomas’s are immersed in a beautiful and historical building surrounded by rose gardens, olive trees, vineyards and fruit trees. The parent community of St. Thomas’s has collaborated with us to develop the campus experience to include a kitchen garden, covered gazebo area with herb garden and a calm library perfect for choosing and losing oneself in a book. The collaboration between leadership, teachers, students and families is at the heart of our approach.
